Design Spotlight: DAMASK and PALACE in Brass

Some bowls are bought. A few are chosen. DAMASK and PALACE have always been the Embers Elements designs people choose slowly — the patterned pair, the decorative pair — and until now they have existed only in copper, for water. This season they arrive in solid brass, as food bowls: DAMASK Brass and PALACE Brass, the two newest arrivals in our brass collection.

This spotlight is a closer look at both — where the patterns come from, how they sit in brass, and how to pair them at your pet's feeding station.

DAMASK Brass: pattern with a history

Damask is one of the oldest named patterns in the world — a formal, symmetrical motif that has traveled from woven silk to wallpaper to tableware over centuries, and it keeps its character wherever it lands: ordered, traditional, quietly rich.

Our DAMASK wears the pattern in deep navy — the color that made the copper version a favorite in classic, layered homes. In brass, the same navy damask sits alongside warm golden metal, and the combination is striking: pattern with depth, metal with warmth. It is the bowl for the home that likes its traditions visible — and for the pet whose corner of the kitchen deserves better than an afterthought.

PALACE Brass: the showpiece

If DAMASK is the traditionalist, PALACE is the performer. Our PALACE carries a peacock design — the most decorative bowl we make, and the one guests ask about. Peacocks have symbolized beauty and pride in palace art for centuries, and on a bowl the motif does something rare in pet products: it makes the feeding station a talking point.

In brass, PALACE keeps its peacock design in green and cream and gains the weight and presence of solid metal underneath. The result is a food bowl that reads less like equipment and more like an object — something that would look at home on a sideboard, which happens to feed a very fortunate cat or dog twice a day.

What they share: solid brass, handcrafted

For all their decoration, both bowls are working bowls first. Each is handcrafted from solid brass, with the sturdy weighted base every Embers Elements brass bowl has — the base that resists tipping and sliding when a meal is met with enthusiasm. And brass is a copper alloy — copper and zinc combined — so each of these bowls is family to its copper counterpart: 99.9% pure copper on the water side, copper's golden alloy on the food side. Both are easy to hand wash and dry after meals, and both will develop brass's natural patina over time: not wear, but the signature of real, uncoated metal settling into your home. A polish restores the bright shine whenever you prefer it that way.

Both come in Large — one generous size for cats and for dogs of every appetite — and both pair with their copper counterparts — DAMASK copper for water beside DAMASK Brass for food, PALACE beside PALACE — as two of the four dining sets in the collection: the DAMASK Dining Set and the PALACE Dining Set.

How to choose between them

Choose DAMASK Brass if your home leans classic — navy, wood, layered pattern, nothing trying too hard. Choose PALACE Brass if you want the feeding station to be a small event — color, craft and a peacock that earns its compliments. And if you already own the DAMASK or PALACE copper water bowl, the choice is made for you: the matching brass bowl completes the pair.

They join the hand-hammered AURORA Brass and the smooth DUNE Brass as new arrivals — four brass designs, each with its own character, all of them made to sit beside copper and be used, with pleasure, every day.

The copper originals have their own spotlight, too: Design Spotlight: Hand-Hammered Copper Pet Water Bowls.

Questions, answered

What are DAMASK Brass and PALACE Brass?

They are the two newest designs in our solid brass food bowl range, joining AURORA Brass and DUNE Brass. Both are handcrafted from solid brass with a weighted base.

What is the difference between DAMASK and PALACE?

DAMASK carries a deep navy damask pattern — traditional and rich. PALACE is our most decorative design, with a peacock motif in green and cream.

Are these the same designs as the copper bowls?

Yes — DAMASK and PALACE now exist in both metals. The copper versions are water bowls; the brass versions are food bowls, so the two can be paired as a dining set in the same design.

What sizes do DAMASK Brass and PALACE Brass come in?

Large — 8.25 inches in diameter and 64 fl oz, the same dimensions as our Large copper water bowls.

How do I care for a brass food bowl?

Hand wash with warm water and mild soap, and dry after washing. Brass develops a natural patina over time; Perfect Polish restores the shine whenever you want it back.
